CNAP 2.0: Advanced Topics in Nonprofit Fiscal Management

In this intensive follow-on, available only to graduates of the original CNAP program, students take a deep dive into activating the lessons of CNAP across their organizations, moving from fiscal confidence and skills to fiscal leadership and organizational transformation.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify the key components and requirements of nonprofit financial statements and disclosures.
  • Understand the principles and standards governing revenue recognition for grants and contracts in nonprofits.
  • Develop strategies to improve financial literacy and communication across departments.
  • Identify key financial policies that support effective governance and financial management.
  • Identify the compliance requirements relevant to nonprofit financial operations.
  • Develop strategies and practices to enhance cybersecurity and protect financial data from cyber threats.

Prerequisites: To take this course, participants must have taken and passed the CNAP Essentials Course exam. However, to receive the CNAP Advanced certificate, participants must submit proof of their CNAP Essentials certification at the end of the course. 

Advance Preparation: None.

Schedule: This course runs once a week on Wednesdays from 2-4pm Eastern Time for 5 weeks. (The schedule box to the right may display times in your local time zone.)

COURSE FEE: $795
The course fee includes 5 online sessions (5 weekly two-hour sessions), all course materials, certification exam and certification fee. 

CPE CREDIT: BDO USA, P.C. is authorized to offer 10 Total CPE (Continuing Professional Education) credits through the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy in the following fields: 

  • Accounting: 6 CPE
  • Business Management & Organization: 2
  • Taxes: 2 CPE

To receive CPE credit for participation in a BDO webinar program, you must respond to the occasional polls that appear throughout the program. You will receive an email notification following the program if you completed the necessary polls and qualified for CPE credit. This email will include instructions on how to access your CPE certificate. A minimum of 3 polling questions is required to be asked for every 50 minutes of training.

National Registry of CPE Sponsors

BDO USA, P.C. is registered with the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) as a sponsor of continuing professional education on the National Registry of CPE Sponsors. State Boards of Accountancy have the final authority on the acceptance of individual course for CPE credit. Complaints regarding registered sponsors may be submitted to the National Registry of CPE Sponsors through its website: www.nasbaregistry.org

 

Event Cancellation Policy

Event Cancellation by  BDO
BDO reserves the right to cancel an event due to low enrollment or other circumstances which would make the event non-viable. If BDO cancels an event, registrants will have the option to either receive a full refund or transfer registration to a different date.

Event Cancellation by Participant
BDO will offer registrants a full refund less a 3% processing fee for requests made in writing no later than five business days before the event (1 week notice). NO REFUND will be given for requests made later than five business days prior to the training. Registrants can also request to transfer to another class at no extra cost as long as requests are made at least 5 business days before the event; otherwise, a 10% transfer fee will be applied before a transfer can be made.

Introduction

In this course, participants will build upon their knowledge from the CNAP Essentials course and take a deeper dive into fiscal planning, management, and strategy.

Session 1

Jan 8 2pm .. 4pm

In depth discussion of FASB nonprofit financial reporting & disclosure.

Session 2

Jan 15 2pm .. 4pm

Understand accounting and disclosure for revenue recognition of contracts and grants and split interest agreements. Also review regulatory compliance for charitable solicitation registration, uniform guidance, and non 501(c)3 entities.

Session 3

Jan 22 2pm .. 4pm

Delve deeper in IRS regulations including form 990 schedules and form 1023 and 1024 applications.

Session 4

Jan 29 2pm .. 4pm

Examine best practices for financial governance & policies around fiscal sponsorship, gift agreements, cross team communication, board presentations, and cybersecurity. Also review the business model for social enterprises.

Session 5

Feb 5 2pm .. 4pm

Wrap up and review

Final Exam

Complete the course evaluation, pass the final exam to receive your CPE credits. To complete the certification, upload proof of your CNAP Essentials certification.
